Have you ever wonder why do some guys gets their image or face showing in search results and how do they do it? I am sure you would also want to display your picture along with your posts.
It is actually easy but tedious task. Let me walk you through step by step procedure on how you can get it.
Google call it a Google Authorship Markup and is called a “rich snippet”. Do not worry about the technical languages used. You do not have to know it for sure but just keep in mind for reference purpose. 😉
According to the study carried out, the rich snippet increases the CTR (Click-Through Rate) by 150%. You can read the details here. By showing your picture besides your post’s search engine results is authoritative and adds value to yourself.
So without further ado, lets get on to the procedure.
Google have procedures to follow here but I always use the one outlined below:
You have to perform some procedures on your blog and on your Google+ profile page. So let’s start.
Step 1: You should have a Google account and also create your own profile at https://plus.google.com If you have no idea on how to setup your own Google+ profile then click here to learn it on fast track.
Step 2: Go to your blog dashboard
Step 3: Go to Users > Your Profile.
Step 4: Look for a column called “Biographical Info”. Enter your biography that you want to display below each of your post.
Step 5: When you write your biography, ensure you link to Google+ from your bio. My real example is as shown below:
Keyur is the poster boy of this post. Founder of <a href=”http://dev.vaibh.com/laplacef”>Laplacef</a> and a passionate internet marketer who shares his wealth of knowledge through this platform. Follow Keyur on <a rel=”author” href=”https://plus.google.com/+KeyurAmins?rel=author”>Google+</a>, be friend and follow him on <a href=”https://www.facebook.com/keyuramins”>Facebook</a> and <a href=”https://twitter.com/keyuramins”>Twitter</a> too.
Step 6: Look the way I have put the link to Google+. It includes rel=”author”. Do exactly as shown above but do not link to my Google+, it should link to yours. 😉
Step 7: If you have no idea what your Google+ profile URL is! – Click here
Step 8: Copy the URL that displays on to your browser and use it in Step 4.
Step 9: Next step is to ensure that your name that appears in Google+ profile and the one displayed on your blog are same. If you have your name as Keyur in Google+ profile and your byline on the blog reads Keyur Amin. It won’t work. So ensure your byline is same as the one in Google+. If you have no idea what a byline is, see the image below.
Step 10: If you have no idea on how to change the byline to match the one at Google+, follow these steps > Go to Users > Your Profile > Enter your First Name > Enter your Last Name > Choose the appropriate name from the dropdown ‘Display name publicly as’ > You’re done. Hooray.
Step 11: The next step is to have your email on the domain you wanna link. For example…if you want to write on www.laplacef.com then you should have your email like firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
This step is very important.
Step 12: Once you are done with above steps, go to this page here and enter your email in the box provided and click on the button “Signup for Authorship”
Step 13: Google will then send you the verification email > Click on the link provided in the verification message.
Step 14: Go to your Google+ profile by clicking here. Click on the About link and scroll down to section under ‘Links’ that says ‘Contributor to’ If you do not see your domain in there as a link in the contributor section. Click Edit underneath and hit ‘Add custom link’ > fill in the domain name and domain URL > click Save.
Step 15: Time to check if everything that you have setup is valid or not. Click here to verify if your setup is fine. It will look like the image as shown below:
Step 16: Put your blog post URL and not your blog URL – Please note because this is very important. You have to test your blog post URL as they are going to be ranked individually and not only the blog URL.
Step 17: If you have followed the above steps properly, then you should get a page as shown below:
I hope now you have got your picture in search results by verifying in the rich snippets tool.
Step 18: Comment below and provide your views and your results or any other method that you have used to get your picture in search results.
